Hillsdale Neighborhood Association Meeting Approval of Agenda Oregon Department of Transportation will present current status and plans for the rebuilding of the earmarked federally funded $45 million Iowa Structure under which pass the 40 mile loop and Urban Trail 3, the Willamette River to Fanno Creek Pedestrian Trail. ODOT wants to close the trail entirely for 2 to 3 years during the entire construction project. Appropriate mitigation is one of the the key issues. 150,000 cubic yards of material will be dug out, some must be blasted using explosives, and all the excavation will be done at night. That is 15000 truck loads of material. We have been asked to list all the streets in our neighborhood that we do not want trucks to be using. Mitigation ideas include: Building the bike/ped changes on the Vermont Structure to accommodate the Red Electric trail on our neighborhoods preferred route, see attached sketch; paving Slavin Road to leave it in bike/ped ready condition when the bridge is completed so we have a connection to the new Gibbs Street Pedestrian Bridge which goes to contract this summer. One idea is to request the schedule for the Red Electric to be moved up so we can use a part of the fill from the I5 project to fill the gully north of the Capitol Coffee House to connect to Bertha Blvd. It could save the State of Oregon money on haul and disposal costs, and it could get us the connection earlier and at a lower cost. The key is getting our leaders to want to make it happen. Multnomah Sewer Project. Trucks will be using Bertha and Vermont, do we want to have BES come to our next meeting? Other business New business If you are like me, you probably felt ripped off when the garbage service did not give us one cent of credit when they missed 1 or 2 weeks of garbage and recycle pickup. The garbage companies, some of which did not even pay their employees during the snow event, simply put the money they saved into their pockets. How can we make our concerns felt? If you do a 2 week vacation, they refund the prorata garbage charge. So, if you take a 1 week vacation, stop the garbage for 2 weeks and they will credit you about 12 dollars on your bill. Take vacations from garbage pick up often! There is more than one way to make our voices felt! You are invited to join me for a walk around with our TriMet district representative later in April or May. Dates to be determined. Drop me an email or call if you are interested in joining the walk around. TriMet will hold a hearing at Wilson HS Cafeteria 4 to 7 pm to hear your concerns about how the bus/train system is being managed. Speak up, make your concerns known. Wilson Auction April 4th.
